Composer Nick Schofield, based in Gatineau, Québec, takes his signature ambient practice to a new level with his Ambient Ensemble.

These two tracks, “Picture Perfect” and “On Air,” showcase the Ensemble’s beautiful sound: distant piano improvisations meet vintage synths, resulting in a unique blend of contemporary-classical and electronic music.

Recorded in the spacious natural reverb of MacKay United Church in Ottawa, the tracks feature Schofield’s piano and synths (Roland Juno 6, Moog) alongside a chamber group of fretless/double bass, violin (Mika Posen), and the convivial accents of voice and clarinet (Yolande Laroche).
