Spring Energy: The Spring Up EP

The sound of spring has arrived in the form of The Spring Up, a high-energy collaboration between two heavyweights of the Canadian music scene. This five-track EP is the result of a few creative sessions in a Toronto studio, fueled by a shared love for classic hip hop albums and a bit of lucky timing.

The project brings together the sharp lyrics of Shad and the world-class production of Skratch Bastid. While Shad is a celebrated emcee based in Ontario, Skratch Bastid is a Juno-nominated DJ and producer who originally hails from the East Coast. Together, they have created a collection that feels fresh and urgent, serving as a perfect lead-in to more full-length work from the duo.

A few key tracks define the vibe:

  • “Classic”: This standout song features a production assist from the legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff, adding a soulful, old-school touch to the modern Toronto sound.
  • “Outta My Head”: A catchy, driving track that showcases the seamless chemistry between the vocals and the production.
  • “Clappin”: A rhythmic, high-energy piece designed to move a crowd.
  • “Peace”: A more reflective closing track that brings the project to a soulful end.

The EP also features a guest appearance from fellow Canadian artist Cadence Weapon, further cementing its status as a landmark release for the local hip hop community. The music captures a specific “moment in time” in Toronto, blending the grit of the city with the optimistic spirit of a new season.
