PROTO PROTO – Net Neutrality / 1000

Based in Niagara, Ontario, PROTO PROTO (Julian Anderson) has released a collection of experimental electronic works that directly reference the infrastructure of the digital age.

The track titles “net neutrality” and “1000” are paired with a chaotic manifesto that repurposes the “series of tubes” metaphor used by former U.S. Senator Ted Stevens. By recontextualizing this argument against net neutrality, the project creates a rhythmic critique of the way information is prioritized and delivered within modern telecommunications systems.

The music functions as an exploration of data flow, using glitch textures and industrial arrangements to mimic the dense volume of material described in the original 2006 speech.

Composed and recorded by Anderson, the project captures the technical absurdity of a network managed by those who perceive the internet as a set of tangled pipes. The result is a conceptual piece of Canadian electronic music that bridges the gap between political history and sound art.
